April 22, 2025, Washington state Department of Agriculture sent written notice of correction 4595 to all raw pet food companies selling raw pet milk in Washington from out of state origin – refusing to license the product. Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) cited human raw milk laws as the applicable law in this case.
Immediately, our trade association started working with members to work with WSDA to get this misinterpretation of law corrected.
With excellent input from multiple resources, legal and trade advocacy, the team has successfully convinced WSDA to rescind notice of correction 4595.
Interstate transportation of raw pet milk, as long as it is appropriately labeled according to AAFCO guidelines, is once again permitted into the state of Washington.
This is a win.
Well, done team.
